MIU Stainless-Steel Tomato/Vegetable Mill Review

MIU Stainless-Steel Tomato/Vegetable Mill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Very easy to put together and easy to use. Three types of blades makes this food mill versatile for straining tomato seeds to mashing potatos. The price is unbeatable, the size is convenient for single person or small family. The construction is sturdy and simple, which i like because it means less parts to break, put together, and clean. The food mill is great because it purees and strains the food at once. No more fighting with strainers or losing your purees through transfering them between food processer and strainer. I decided to buy this foodmill after realizing a decent sized chinois strainer with pestle (yes, sometimes you have to buy the pestle separately) can cost the same and often times more. This mill has been a real pleasure to use and I am grateful of the investment.
NOTE: THE BLADE-PLATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE MILL IS CONCAVED AND SHOULD POINT TOWARD YOU, IE, POINT UPWARD. this way the rotating blade will slide snugly over the plate. It should be very easy to turn. If you find the rotating blade hard to turn, or hard to fit into place, you've probably have the 'blade-plate' upside down. Device only have 3 pieces when put together, not too many variation as to how to put it together...

Using the food mill unlocks the aromas and textures of fresh vegetables and herbs, enhancing the flavor of any dish. The 2-Quart capacity is ideal for preparing fresh tomato or pesto sauce, applesauce, mashed potatoes, peas or yams. This larger size is ideal for home or restaurant use. Health conscious parents can use this food mill to create their own baby purees that are chemical and preservative free. It includes 3 different sized attachments for mashing, milling or ricing. The food mill is supported by foldable legs. The legs help to stabilize the food mill over pots or bowls. A quick turn of the large crank handle forces food through the blades and directly into a pot or bowl. The entire mill is made of stainless steel and is dishwasher safe.

Velox Tomato Press / Tomato Strainer - Made in Italy Review

Velox Tomato Press / Tomato Strainer - Made in Italy
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this tomato press to replace a similar one I got years ago which finally just wore out. Be aware that the actual color of the press is RED not the white as in the photo. The square bowl that comes with this particular press is handy for catching the offloaded tomato remnants. A comment about these type of presses making only "tomato soup" which is sort of true, the pressed tomato stuff that comes out of the chute is sort of soup-like but makes a great base for spaghetti sauce, salsa, and pizza sauce. I usually add a can of tomato paste to thicken the sauce up. Secondly I saw one reviewer's comments about the left over tomato stuff being a waste, well, I learned years ago to just keep putting that material back in the hopper and re-pressing it. I recently did about 10 pounds of tomatoes from my garden and got 4 huge containers of sauce with only seeds, a stem or three, and bits of skin left over. My wife was amazed at how little is left after you keep re-pressing.
The only down side to these presses is the squisher part which is inside is tough to clean. All in all though a great way to make a sauce base for the money and a great use of my garden tomatoes.

Back to Basics 220P20 Fine Berry Screen Review

Back to Basics 220P20 Fine Berry Screen

Back to Basics 220P20 Fine Berry Screen
Don't like seeds in your berry jam?
Have diverticulosis?
This is what you need. It removes virtually all the seeds, and quickly.
The gadget you attach it to is a food strainer. There are several choices of sieve screens, for fine (this one) to coarse (salsa).
To prepare apples, just remove the blossom end and stems. Cook, sieve, done. For tomato juice or sauce, quarter and cook, then sieve. Ready to can or cook down to sauce. It really saves time.

Roma Food/Veg Strainer Review

Roma Food/Veg Strainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used this Roma Vegetable Strainer for making apple sauce twice. Previously I have used the Victorio strainer (very nice and sturdy, but no longer available) and Back to Basics (stronger than the Roma in my opinion, but not as good as the Victorio - it had a lot of parts to lose and was not rust resistant). The Roma is easy to put together and seems to be rust resistant, but is weak, flimsy, unstable, and doesn't hold on my counter well with either the suction or the clamp.Things I like about the Roma Strainer:
* Pieces attach easily without nuts and bolts
* Seem to be rust resistant (The Back-to-Basics strainer that I bought 15 years ago had some parts that would rust)
* Plastic cone that takes the waste (seeds, core and skin) away is farther from the sauce dispenser, making it easier to have various shapes of bowls.Things I dislike about the Roma Strainer:
* The suction cup does not hold on my smooth quartz counter-top. Nice try, but it doesn't work.
* I have a bull-nose (rounded edge) to my counter-top so the clasp doesn't work very well either - it isn't long enough to reach around the bull-nose. So, it starts wiggling fairly quickly and isn't very stable, with no way to attach it more firmly.
* The handle is much harder to turn than the old Victorio (purchased 30 years ago) or Back-to-basics (purchased 16 years ago) strainers I have previously used. As I turn the handle, the vertical support seems to wobble or bend a bit, as though it isn't very strong.
* The handle seems a bit flimsy.
* Turning the handle is stiffer with more resistance than with the other strainers I have used before. (You tire more quickly.
* I have to run the waste product through 2 x as there is a lot of good applesauce that goes out with it.
The materials and workmanship are poorer quality. Some of the features (fewer parts to get lost) are nicer. Overall, though, my experience is that it is not nearly as good or as easy to use as the other strainers I have used in the past.

Norpro "The Original" Sauce Master Review

Norpro The Original Sauce Master
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm wondering why it never occurred to anyone else to simply put a 9x13 under their sauce master to collect the sauce. I use one of my baking pans and it holds plenty of strawberry puree for jam. It pours well into a measuring cup without a mess. So no, there isn't a problem with design here.
Also, my sister in law has another company's similar product and complains that in making sauces her's splatters off the screen very badly. Mine is perfectly clean as the sauce guard catches all of it. There is at times a problem with the discard backing up and falling into the sauce but it only happens when my children are running the machine and not paying attention. An adult should have no problem getting it to work without incident.

B2B Food Strainer & Sauce Maker Review

B2B Food Strainer and Sauce Maker

just used the "back to basics 220 strainer" and the results were wonderful
the machine is well built, and the instructions were made designed the way you could follow them easily. most products i buy, the instructions do not have empathy for the user who must assemble and use the product.
it worked great on the tomatoes. the seeds, peels and core came out the "discard end" and the pure "pulp juice" came out the front. i processed 200 tomatoes without a problem. bang for the buck, you can't beat the production this machine will give you the tomato season

Victorio VKP250 Model 250 Food Strainer and Sauce Maker Review

Victorio VKP250 Model 250 Food Strainer and Sauce Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the best thing in the kitchen for home processing of fruits and vegetables. Bought it for tomatoes to make sauce and juice, but after reading booklet found out other uses such as raspberry juice (we use for homemade ice cream) I used to strain the berries through cheese cloth and clean pantyhose to get out seeds, but with this not only do i get clean juice but more of it as you can reprocess the "waste" several times. I would highly recommend this item. Save yourself the trouble and just buy the extra screens when you purchase the base kit.
