Solostar II Multi-purpose Juicer Review

My SoloStar II has been plagued by problems. In less than a year, many of the outer parts have broken. The juicing screen ($35.00) has broken three times. When the juicing screens break, it happens before the pulp container is even full. As a result, the auger and juicing screen need to be cleaned constantly within a session. The screen locking cap ($5.80) has also broken. Speaking of the auger, even that cracked ($35.00). Several times, I e-mailed customer service about such issues with no reply. When I called, Tribest Life promptly sent out free replacement parts.
Benefits
When the parts aren't breaking, the SoloStar II works very well. It's simple to assembly and operate. The actual extraction process seems efficient. Cleaning is a breeze since most of the parts rinse under the sink. The only cleaning challenge is the juicing screen. Along these lines, the modified toothbrush that comes with the unit is worthless. I now use a steel auto detailing brush that does a great job. The SoloStar II is visually pleasing and the unit operates at a good volume. I was inspired to purchase the juicer after watching the online video as hosted on the Tribest Life web page. It accompanies the juicer in VHS format. Being a first time juicer, this was extremely helpful.
In conclusion, there are benefits and drawbacks to the SoloStar II. While it may have been a good introduction to the juicing world, I definitely look forward to an upgrade. Talking to juicers (people who juice, not the machines;), it seems that you really need to spend around $350.00-$400.00 before getting a quality juicer. Should you decide to purchase the SoloStar II, make certain that you send in the warranty/registration card. That was essential in getting parts replaced at no charge.

(More customer reviews)I have four fifty foot grapefruit trees in my yard and I needed a juicer that was capable of handling large fruit and a motor powerful enough to handle the job at hand.
I use it so often that I was afraid that it would end up as a permanent fixture on my counter top, but I found it easy to make room for it in the cabinet when I needed the extra space. Its so much easier to clean than the small juicers that I've gone through from Wal-Mart, but the tiny metal lip that controls the flow is delicate and needs some TLC.
It has a good strong motor and its heavy enough to stay in place when the juice is being extracted. I tried the Cuisinart juicer but once you push down on the grapefruit, the grapefruit stays in place but the juicer spun around and blasted juice 360 degrees all around my kitchen!! I returned it immediately and looked long and hard to find this fabulous juicer. It comes with a universal cone so even the smallest lemons or limes can be juiced as well as the grapefruit!!

(More customer reviews)We have the orange, lemon, and lime squeezers. Ease of squeeze diminishes as size increases and fruit becomes firmer. An older, drier orange would be almost impossible for Hulk Hogan to get a drop out of. A small, juicy lime would be a whiz for an arthritic grandma.
Our objections are, the enamel peels off where the juice contacts it most strongly and repeatedly, so that bits of paint fall in your food preparations; the acid in the juice attacks the bare aluminum and causes pitting; waxy coatings from the fruit which build up on the inside surfaces of the juicers attract dirt and mildew and are virtually impossible to remove; and finally, the pin that holds the pieces together is steel and rusts.
Although these juicers get the juice out, we're now looking for an all stainless steel model with long enough handles so it doesn't take a lot of strength to juice a lemon, and doesn't shed paint and collect crud that can't be removed.

Well, I juiced exactly _3_ 3-inch diameter oranges. On the 4th orange, a critical cast-iron piece on one of the 2 right-hand hinges broke.
Other review comments concerning difficulty of cleanup are accurate. I would add that the metal strainer has edges that seemed quite sharp, making cleanup potentially dangerous.
I would not recommend this juicer under any circumstances.

He asked for just a manual one (didn't want an automatic), but my mother has a glass one and I thought it was better than the usual plastic juicers. We like this one because of the "cup" that's with it. It's very easy to use and once you juice the fruit, then you just pour the juice into the recipe (or glass). The item is simple, easy to use and easy to clean. My only suggestion would be to have additional tops to use with varying sizes of fruits.

(More customer reviews)I now use this juicer more than the enameled aluminum hand juicers. It's easier on the hands epecially when you have lots to lemons/limes and oranges to squeeze. I place the juicer in my sink to get better leverage. The juicing goes by real fast. It's made of sturdy plastic.
I only gave 4 stars because the juice container doesn't hold that much - I'm constantly emptying it. It holds about 1/3 cup. Also, the prongs/clips that hold the juicing cup to the body of the juicer will break off after lots of use. The prongs on mine broke off and I didn't realize it. If the prongs were better made and the cup held more then I would have given it 5 stars.

(More customer reviews)I have made several different kinds of juice with whatever kind of fruit was ripe in the garden. I love it so much I even got fruit out of the freezer that I wanted to process but never had the time to last year. I can't wait for the grapes to be ready.
Very easy to use and the juice comes out clear and without any effort. Just fill the bottom pot with water, add the fruit to the basket, turn it on and wait an hour. Cleanup is easy as the pulp cleans up easily and each piece of the system is manageable in size and with nicly rounded corners.
I have used elderberry in the steam juicer and the tube did not stain, even though elderberry seems to stain anything it comes in contact with.
I dilute the juice concentrate with water for our breakfast juice and I know it will pay for itself in a short time.
This is a wonderful way to make healthy juice without the effort and trouble of conventional juice exctraction.
